Metzger Staats Pain Management Metzger Staats Pain Management, established in New Jersey in 2004, is among the most comprehensive centers for the treatment of acute and chronic pain in the world. The center provides cutting edge therapies and treatments for its patients. Metzger Staats is firmly committed to helping people manage their pain, and specializes in obtaining dramatic results in pain management without the need for major surgery. Scott Metzger and Peter Staats met in 1991. Metzger was a medical student at Boston University, visiting Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where Staats was a resident. Metzger later had his own residency at Johns Hopkins, studying under Dr. Staats, who founded the University’s Division of Pain Management. Dr. Staats concentrated his energies on teaching, research and the development of new pain management procedures, as well as writing or co-editing books, chapters, articles and abstracts on the subject. Dr. Metzger returned to his native New Jersey with the goal of giving back to his community, starting his own practice in 2000. Dr. Staats received world-wide recognition for his work, being cited by his peers, professional and consumer publications as one of the best pain management doctors in the country. Dr. Metzger’s local practice thrived, and he looked to expand it further. In 2004, the two physicians combined their strengths and talents, creating Metzger Staats, a world-class pain management center that attracts patients internationally. The goal at Metzger Staats is not only to treat pain, but also to alleviate the symptoms of that pain. “We understand that the treatment of pain is not only a physical issue, but an emotional one as well,” says Dr. Metzger. “We pride ourselves on our ‘hands on’ approach that affords each patient the personal time, care and treatment that’s needed.” “It is important to thoroughly evaluate patients and then provide them with the right treatment,” Dr. Staats continues. “Treatments may include, but are not limited to, medications, injections or other minimally invasive spine procedures. We treat patients suffering from spine, neck, back, face and nerve injuries…and from diseases including diabetes, shingles and cancer.” Dr. Scott Metzger is also the founder of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Interventional Pain Practitioners. Dr. Peter Staats continues as Adjunct Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins, though based at Metzger Staats. Together, they lead a team of highly trained physicians, nurse practitioners and medical support staff in their three New Jersey locations. |
